How to Meditate

Practical guidance for anyone who wants to start — or restart — a meditation practice. No experience required, no special beliefs, just clear instruction and a place to begin.

Meditation is one of those things that sounds simple until you actually sit down and try it. The mind wanders. The body fidgets. You wonder if you're doing it wrong. You probably aren't — but having a reliable map helps.

The posts collected here are written for real people with real lives: busy schedules, scattered attention, and maybe a little skepticism about whether any of this actually works. You won't find mystical promises or elaborate techniques requiring years of study. What you will find is grounded, step-by-step guidance drawn from fifty years of practice — instruction that meets you wherever you are and gives you something you can actually use today.

Whether you've never meditated before, tried it once and gave up, or have been sitting for years and want to go deeper, there's something here for you. Each post stands on its own, so you can start anywhere. But if you're looking for a place to begin, the earliest entries are a good foundation — they address the basic questions most beginners carry: How long should I sit? What do I do with my thoughts? Is this working?

The answer to that last question, almost always, is yes.
